Picture this: the year is 2006, late December. Sony Ericsson has just released its new mobile camera/phone. It looks great, sleek and black. Definitely better than your old Z1010. you're definitely hip to new trends in telecommunication. Fast forward to April 2007, Sony Ericsson has released its new 800/850 series. They are much better than your now old 750. They are sleeker, prettier and definitely shows that you are not hip to new trends. So you ask yourself, 'Why the fuck did I not wait?'
am sure this scenario has played itself in many a poor consumer's life. And unfortunately it is not limited to Sony Ericssons products. We have Apple who fuck with us every 3-6 months with their ipods; Sony and others with their 'new ground-breaking' plasma TVs; and let us not forget the newer higher performance computers. And it is not just limited to tangible products but also the intangibles such as computer software which changes every fucking month. One should be thankful it takes Microsoft so long to deliver its upgrades.
Why are these corporations doing this to us, the supposed important consumers that they claim to need? Are they aware that their largest consumer group does not include the wealthy but those who want to look wealthy? Do they even know that a large number of their consumers are often unaware where their next paycheck is coming from?
Of course, I am quite sure that Nike verify the popularity of their new shoes by how many poor black kids buy them. And they know they have a big hit if someone is shot or killed over them. And do you know what is the really sad part? We keep on buying, we still allow ourselves to be seduced by the 'next best thing'. How stupid are we really? I have no idea but I am certain the corporations do.
Let's return to SonyEricsson. First, I should let be known that I am not technological person, I have no idea how to write code or software. I am an average guy but I believed I can be qualified as a 'perfect end-user' who skills go way beyond the average.
